On July 3, 2008, Quebec City celebrates its 400th anniversary, making it one of the oldest cities in North America. A plethora of festivities and celebrations will occur throughout the year beginning with a massive New Years party that will include a musical, theatrical and acrobatic extravaganza. A grand birthday bash will be held from July 3 to 6 and the party will eventually come to a close in October with a finale celebration of French culture.

From May until October 2008, the Old Port in Quebec City will be the home of Espace 400, the heart of celebrations for the city's 400th anniversary. The area will feature a thematic pavilion with exhibitions and specialty food concessions, an artists' garden, a covered outdoor theatre, discovery tours of the region, an open-air multimedia show and much more.

The closing ceremonies for Quebec City's 400th Anniversary party coincide with the 12th Summit of French-Speaking countries and, as such, activities will celebrate the city's role in brining French culture to North America as well as highlight the cultural diversity of the French-speaking world.
